Professor Zuguo Liu is the director of the Eye Institute of Xiamen University. He received his M.D. degree from Hengyang Medical College in 1985 and obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Sun Yat-sen Medical University of China in 1991 and 1996, respectively. Professor Liu studied as a visiting scholar at LSU eye centre in 1992, and conducted post-doctoral work at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute from 1997 to 1999.

Professor Liu has published 42 national textbooks and monographs as editor-in-chief or editor and has written more than 400 academic papers. He has more than 20 patents under his name and has been supported by over 50 grants. Professor Liu won the distinguished achievement award of Ophthalmology in China, and the APAO achievement award.

Professor Liu is the president of the Ophthalmological Society of National Medical Exchanges Association across the straits, elected-president of Asia Dry Eye society, member of the council of Asia Cornea Society, as well as the standing committee of Chinese Ophthalmological Society and Chinese Ophthalmologist Association. He is the vice president of the Chinese Corneal Society.
